MAC OS X EL CAPITAN SERVER (10.11): HOW TO GENERATE A CSR WITH THE SERVER APP


MAC OS X EL CAPITAN: INSTALL YOUR SSL CERTIFICATE
1. SELECT the Server App. This in located in Finder, and below the FAVORITES option press APPLICATIONS. Then, SELECT server.

2. Within the SERVER APP, listed under CHOOSE A MAC there are two choices to click based on which server you want to create your CSR:

It is important to choose the server that you plan to use to install this SSL Certificate.

To make the CSR on this server:

i. Click THIS MAC- YourServerName and then press CONTINUE.

ii. Type in your ADMINISTRATOR NAME and ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD, then press ALLOW.

To make the CSR on a different server:

i. Click OTHER MAC- YourServerName and then press CONTINUE.

ii. Type in HOST NAME/IP ADDRESS, your ADMINISTRATOR NAME and ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD, then press ALLOW.

3. Within the SERVER APP tab, select CERTIFICATES located under the Server list.

4. Once in the CERTIFICATES window, PRESS the “+” button and SELECT “Get a Trusted Certificate.”

5. Once on the “Get a Trusted Certificate” window, Select NEXT.

6. Fill In the information below:

HOST NAME: This is the name that you will use for the certificate. This is typically the fully qualified domain name that you plan to use (FQDN). For example, www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com.

CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS: Type in the email address where you can be reached.

COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION: Type in the legally registered name of your organization or company.

DEPARTMENT: Type in the name of your department.

TOWN OR CITY: Type in the location of your organization by listing the town or city.

STATE OR PROVINCE: Type in the location or your organization by listing the state or providence.

COUNTRY: Click the country that your organization or company is located in by choosing from the menu.

7. To create your CSR, select NEXT.

8. Then, Press SAVE to save the CSR. Be sure to write down the filename and location of the file for reference later.

9. Select FINISH.

10. Use TextEdit to open the fie. Next, copy the text making sure to include the BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST and END NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST options, and paste it into the DigiCert order form.

Tip: When ordering your DigiCert SSL Certificate make sure you select MAC OS X SERVER when prompted to Select Server Software. This will ensure that you get all the required certificates for MAC OS X EL CAPITAN SSL CERTIFICATE INSTALLATION (Intermediate and SSL Certificates).

11. Lastly, when you receive your SSL Certificate from DigiCert you will be able to install it.
