MAC OS X MAVERICKS SERVER: SSL CERTIFICATE CSR CREATION
MAC OS X MAVERICKS SERVER: SSL CERTIFICATE INSTALLATION
In order to get a valid SSL Certificate, you must create a CSR. Next, you will need to use the information associated with the CSR to order your SSL Certificate. After you receive your SSL Certificate, then you can install it.
MAC OS X MAVERICKS SERVER (10.9): GENERATE A CSR WITH THE SERVER APP
1. SELECT the SERVER APP.
2. Open finder, and select APPLICATIONS under Favorites. Next, select SERVER.
3. Once in the SERVER tab, you have two options when clicking the server you want to use to create your CSR. It is important that you choose the server you are going to use to install the SSL Certificate.
-If you want to put the CSR on this server:
i. Click THIS MAC- YourServerName and then select CONTINUE.
ii. Type in your ADMINISTRATOR NAME and ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD and then press CONNECT.
-If you want to put the CSR on a different server:
i. Click OTHER MAC and then press CONTINUE.
ii. Type in your HOST NAME or IP ADDRESS, your ADMINISTRATOR NAME and ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD, and then press CONNECT.
4. Under the SERVER heading, select CERTIFICATES.
5. Once on the CERTIFICATES window, tap on the “+” button and select “GET A TRUSTED CERTIFICATE”
6. Once on the GET TRUSTED CERTIFICATE window, press NEXT.
7. Then, fill in the information listed below:
HOST NAME: Type in the name that will be used to access the certificate. This name is typically the fully qualified domain name (FQDN). For example: www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com
CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS: Type in the email address where you wish to be contacted.
COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION: Type in the name of the legally registered organization or company.
DEPARTMENT: Type in the name of the department within the organization. Examples could be IT or Web Security.
TOWN OR CITY: Type in what city or town where your organization or company is.
STATE OR PROVIDENCE: Type in what state or providence your organization or company is.
COUNTRY: Click on the drop-down menu to choose what country your organization or company is located.
8. Then, to create your CSR select NEXT.
9. Press SAVE and save the CSR. Be sure to write down the filename and location of the file to reference.
10. Select FINISH.
11. Next, use TextEdit to open the file. Then, COPY the text that says “BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST and END NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST” tags and PASTE it to the DigiCert order form.
When ordering your DigiCert SSL Certificate, make sure you click MAC OS X SERVER when prompted to SELECT SERVER SOFTWARE. Then, you will get all the required certificates for MAC OS X MAVERICKS SSL CERTIFICATE installation (Intermediate and SSL Certificates).
12. Lastly, when you receive your SSL Certificate from DigiCert, you will be able to install it.
